コアフレームが紡ぐ新たなる物語
あけましておめでとうございます。本年も、エムティーケーアーキテクツ、そしてこのブログ”刻 - TOKI”をよろしくお願い致します。
2024年は非常に厳しいスタートとなりました。被災された皆様に心よりお見舞い申し上げます。東日本、そしてこの能登の大地震において、言葉では表現しきれないほどの悲しみを感じています。一日でも早くこの状況を乗り越え、新たなる希望を抱く日が訪れることを心から願っております。
さて、本日はご無沙汰していた筑北村の信州木造り工房"筑北ラボ"の現場のご報告です。昨年末から一時休止していた工事が再開されました。土台引きが終わってから、現場はお休み期間になりました。
年末からは新たなプランに基づく柱や梁の組み立てが進められています。土台と大引の間には断熱材が敷き詰められ、床の剛性を保つために厚さ24mmの構造用合板が貼り付けられました。
その後、取り組んだのは今回の再生計画の中核となる”新しい軸組みによるコアフレーム”の施工です。この新しい軸組みは、旧構造体の中に組み込まれ、新旧を繋げ耐震補強を施したものです。
”新しい軸組によるコアフレーム”は、幅2.73m（1.5間）、奥行き3.64m（2間）で、約6畳分のキューブ状のものになります。全体が耐震壁となるよう構造用合板で覆われ、柱の厚みにより断熱材が敷き詰められた壁をもつキューブとなる予定です。
写真は、そのフレームが組み上がった状態です。土台の下には新しく設けられたコンクリート基礎がしっかりと固定され、上部の梁は古い構造体にしっかりと結ばれています。この新しいコアが、まさに古いものを支える役割を果たしています。
新旧のコントラストが非常に面白いですね。旧構造体の部分は、新たに色を塗ることなくそのままの状態を保つ予定です。もちろん、清掃を行い、美しさを引き出します。
寒い中、黙々と作業している大工さんたちに心から感謝しています。彼らの手なくしては、このプロジェクトは成り立たないのです。

2024 has had a challenging start. My heart goes out to all those affected by the earthquakes in eastern Japan in 2011 and Noto in 2024. The grief is beyond words. I sincerely hope that the day will soon come when we can overcome this situation and embrace new hope.
Now, let me provide an update on the construction site of Chikuhoku-mura Shinshu Kizukurikobo, "Chikuhoku Lab," which we haven't talked about for a while. Construction paused since the end of last year, has resumed. After completing the bearer work of the timber structure, the site took a break during the holiday period. Since the end of the year, work has been progressing on the installation of columns and beams based on the new plan. Insulation has been installed between the bearer and the floor joists, and 24mm structural plywood has been used to maintain the rigidity of the floor.
The focus then shifted to the heart of this regeneration plan - the creation of the 'New Core Frame'. This new frame is integrated into the old structure, strengthening it for earthquake resistance. The New Core Frame is designed as a cube 2.73m wide (1.5 ken) and 3.64m deep (2 ken), roughly the size of a 6 tatami mat. It will be completely covered with structural plywood to act as earthquake-resistant walls. Insulation material will be filled in the wall to the thickness of the columns.
The photograph shows the Core Frame in its assembled state. The newly installed concrete foundation is firmly anchored under the bearer, while the upper beams are firmly tied to the old structure. This new core serves to support the very old one.
The contrast between old and new is fascinating. The plan is to maintain the existing structure without repainting, leaving it in its original state. Of course, it will be thoroughly cleaned to enhance its beauty.
A big thank you to the carpenters who work tirelessly in the cold. Their hands are essential to the success of this project.
